Jolié Egg Books wants every reader to be able to browse the catalog, read our notes, and sign up for the newsletter, including readers who use a screen reader, keyboard navigation, magnification, or captions.
What we aim for
We build this site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. That is the standard most commonly referenced in the United States for public websites, and it is the target we hold new pages to before they ship.
What we do
Every page starts with a skip link to the main content. Headings run in order so a screen reader can navigate the page structure. Images that carry meaning have descriptive alternative text, and purely decorative images are hidden from assistive technology instead of read aloud. Form fields have visible labels. Links that open a new tab say so. Text and interface colors are checked against the WCAG contrast thresholds.
Where we know we fall short
Book cover images come from publishers and third-party catalogs, so the artwork itself is outside our control. Links to Amazon, Bookshop.org, Fable, and social platforms lead to sites that set their own accessibility standards, which we cannot change.
Tell us about a barrier
If any part of this site is hard to use, email eggjolie@gmail.com with the page address and what happened. We aim to reply within five business days and to fix confirmed barriers as quickly as we reasonably can. If you need something from the site in another format, ask and we will send it.
Ongoing review
We review accessibility when we ship significant changes to the site and at least once a year. This statement is updated with each review.
